After three months of work, here’s the finished icon of the Blessed Mother to accompany the Jesus icon. Intended as a diptych, I think the two match well. Symbolically, I chose to follow an example I had seen of Mary in a blue dress. This is a rare color for her in traditional icons, but far more common a color associated with her in the West. Her hand is raised over her heart, emphasising her loving role and compassion as mother. The three stars over her shoulders and forehead, a very long standing tradition, are meant to symbolize her perpetual virginity of past, present and future. Now the only question remaining: What icon to do next?
